Polyne Quarry is the best inland exposure of fossiliferous horizons of the Lower Devonian Meadfoot Group in North Cornwall. This locality has yielded a rich and varied fauna in a characteristic lithology of brown shales, which contrasts with more sandy horizons exposed around Looe. The fauna from this locality is of considerable importance in establishing a Siegenian age for the Meadfoot Group in this region.
