Area: 0.22 hectares
Description and Reasons for Notification:
This quarry includes excellent exposures in cross-bedded and channelled gravels and sands, with subordinate muds, which represent deposition in a probable braided stream environment. This is the type section for the Aller Gravel, and it represents the largest and best section remaining of the Palaeogene gravels in the southwest peninsula. It is therefore of critical value for the study of palaeoenvironments and provenance early in the Tertiary sub-era.
